This is a full translation of the January 2025 publication “Destruction of the Kakhovka Reservoir: Environmental Consequences” (ISBN 978-617-8501-02-0). The publication summarizes information on the environmental, economic, and social consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP dam in June 2023 as documented by the end of 2024. It analyzes the impacts on protected areas, biodiversity, soils, water resources, and climate and presents the first evidence of ecosystem recovery within the area of the former reservoir.

The team of authors comprises leading ecologists, botanists, and zoologists who analyzed the available information on the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Reservoir and complemented this assessment with the results of their own field expeditions, analyses of bottom sediments, and remote sensing data.
