Together with all Ukrainians, we congratulate the incredible successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kherson region! The fact that the protected territories of the right-bank part of the Kherson region and the south-eastern part of the Mykolaiv region have been freed from the occupiers is also incredibly pleasing!
What valuable protected areas have been released and what makes them special?
National park “Kamyanska sich”. The territory of the park has great historical significance. Here on the high bank of the Dnipro (now the Kakhovskyi Reservoir) in the 18th century the Cossack Kamianska sich was located.
More than 500 species of vascular plants grow on the territory of the park, including 46 particularly valuable species that are under protection. In particular, earwigs are included in Resolution No. 6 of the Berne Convention, as well as rare habitats.
The National park “Nizhnyodniprovskyi”, which is the largest in Ukraine and covers the Dnipro delta from the Kakhov reservoir to the Buzhsky estuary, has been partially released. The territory of the national park is one of the most valuable natural floodplain-littoral complexes in Europe.
71 species of animals and 32 species of plants are noted in the park, which are included in the IUCN World Red List, the European Red List, the Red Book of Ukraine and the Red List of the Kherson region.
Here are located the current objects of the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine and the wetland of international importance “Dnipro River Delta” (Ramsar sites).
Unfortunately, the floodplain and left bank areas of the national park are still occupied, and the central part is on the front line.
The well-known Stanislavsky Reserve (Stanislavsky Canyon) is also deoccupied.
In total, 25 territories of the nature reserve fund with a total area of over 18,000 hectares have been deoccupied in Kherson Oblast. This is approximately 13% of the nature reserve fund of the Kherson region.
However, most of the objects of the nature reserve fund of the right bank of the Kherson Region are currently on the front line – the Kamianska Sich national park, the Stanislavskyi, Oleksandrivskyi, Shiroka Balka, Sofiivskyi reserves – these territories are separated by the water areas of the Kakhovsky Reservoir, rivers and the Dnipro estuary from the enemy.
In the Mykolayiv region, the “Ivano-Kepine”, “Yelizavetivka” and “Bila Krynytsia” landscape reserves have been released.
3 objects of the nature reserve fund remain occupied in the Mykolayiv region: areas of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve (Volozhyn Forest, Dovgiy Island, Krugliy Island), “Biloberezhya Svyatoslava” National parks, “Kinburnska Kosa” regional landscape park. The total area of the occupied natural reserve fund of the Mykolaiv region is about 18 thousand hectares.
We remind you that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have supported the national parks and reserves that were under occupation, as well as those that have already become liberated. And you can also join this.
