The Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG) invites you to a webinar titled “Modern European Approach to Nature Conservation.” The online event will be broadcast live on the UNCG Facebook page on April 15 at 6:00 PM (Kyiv time).
The speaker will be Anastasiia Drapaliuk, a protected areas expert from UNCG and the executive director of the Ukrainian Nature Foundation. She will explain how nature conservation is organized in the European Union and why biodiversity data is so crucial for these countries.
The webinar will cover several key topics:
- The Natura 2000 network: How it is defined and managed. This is the largest coordinated network of protected areas in the world, designated to protect rare and threatened habitats and species across the EU.
- Favorable conservation status: Understanding what this means for species and natural habitats.
- Protection of species: How the EU Habitats Directive and Birds Directive work to protect species.
- The Nature Restoration Law: A new EU regulation aimed at restoring Europe’s degraded ecosystems.
- The role of citizen science: How public involvement contributes to the preservation of species and natural habitats.
This event is part of a series of webinars in preparation for the First All-Ukrainian Bioblitz.
This event is part of the project “Saving Natural Heritage for LIFE in Ukraine” (LIFE23-PRE-CZ-ConNaturLIFE Ukraine), which is co-financed by the European Union and the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.
