In April, the EU imposed sanctions on the import of Russian and Belarusian wood and most of its products, which caused significant economic losses to the aggressor countries. Similar sanctions were introduced by Japan, the USA and a number of other civilized countries. Unfortunately, these prohibitions do not apply to all wood products.
Also, a ban on the supply and maintenance of wood-harvesting and wood-working equipment in the aggressor countries was not introduced. Although some companies left the market, others remained.
This allows Russia to redirect timber export flows to Asian countries that support aggression by buying Russian goods. We are talking about China, India and Vietnam in particular.
In order to introduce such bans, coordinated joint work of the Ukrainian authorities and the public is required.
Therefore, we call on the Government of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada to adopt appropriate appeals to the governments of foreign countries regarding the complete ban on the import of all wood products from the aggressor countries and on the ban on the supply and maintenance of wood-harvesting and woodworking equipment in the aggressor countries.
