From May 19 to June 8, 2025, all of Ukraine is observing wild nature—join the First All-Ukrainian Bioblitz!
What is a Bioblitz?
A bioblitz is both a competition and a scientific event. You photograph animals, plants, fungi, insects, reptiles, and other living organisms, upload your observations to iNaturalist, and become part of a large movement of naturalists! Every observation helps scientists study and map biodiversity, which is especially crucial in Ukraine now due to the impact of the war.
How to Participate:
- Download the iNaturalist app or create an account on the website: inaturalist.org.
- Join the project called “First All-Ukrainian Bioblitz” (you can usually find this by searching within the app’s project section).
- Observe wild nature from May 19 to June 8 and upload your photos by June 15.
Why Participate?
Every observation helps scientists research biodiversity. Anyone can join, regardless of age or experience. Your observations contribute not only to Ukrainian conservation efforts but also to global scientific knowledge.
Nominations:
Participants will compete for prizes and recognition in several categories:
- Most observations
- Most species
- Most interesting finds

Ukrainian and Czech experts will assist with species identification. The results of the bioblitz will be announced on July 1, 2025.
The event is organized as part of the project “Saving Natural Heritage for LIFE in Ukraine” (LIFE23-PRE-CZ-ConNaturLIFE Ukraine), which is co-financed by the European Union and the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.
