The Kholodny Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Botanical Society, and the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG) are organizing a scientific seminar titled “Biodiversity Databases: Towards Openness Amidst Modern Challenges.” The event will take place on September 30, 2025, in Kyiv in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person and online participation.
The seminar will focus on the establishment, use, and standardization of biodiversity databases in Ukraine. Participants will discuss how to make this data more accessible and effective for scientific research and conservation efforts, especially given the current challenges of the war.
The seminar program includes presentations from leading scientists and experts in various fields related to bioinformatics, geobotany, mycology, and herpetology. Presenters include:
- Yakiv Didukh on geobotanical databases.
- Ihor Sirenko on the history of the FICEN system for processing phytocenological data.
- Oleksiy Vasyliuk on the experience of digitizing Ukrainian biological publications.
- Maryna Yarotska on the diversity of forest biotopes in the Siverskyi Donets River valley.
- Anna Kuzemko on phytosociological databases in Ukraine.
Following the presentations, a round table discussion is planned, where participants can discuss key issues and prospects for the development of biodiversity databases in Ukraine. The event is an excellent opportunity for scientists, specialists, and activists to exchange experiences and foster cooperation.
Online participation will be available via Google Meet. In-person attendees are kindly asked to confirm their registration to ensure proper event organization.
