The Ukrainian Centre for Bat Protection (UCBP) (founded in 1995) joins Ukrainian specialists in studying and protection of bats. Bats are the less studied and the most vulnerable group of Ukrainian mammals. That is why among UCBP priorities there are: stirring of studies of present state of bats populations, development of conservation measures and determination of key habitats for monitoring and protection, establishing work of monitoring network, initiation of bats protection activity in all regions of Ukraine. The important task of UCBP is scientific support to implementation of the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS) in Ukraine. Specialists of UCBP are members of the Scientific-Consultancy Council on Bats Protection of the Ministry for Environmental Protection of Ukraine.
During the last years, specialists of UCBP work active on search, determination, inventory and monitoring of key underground bat habitats in Crimea, Podillia, Transdnistria, inland south of Ukraine, Slobozhanshchyna, Kyiv region, Galytshyna and Transcarpathians. Activity on monitoring of surface bat habitats is also carried out.
